It'd actually be a lot less work by doing so, as it could be put in a batch file or Linux script then. It's running the firmware that came with it, and I want it to stay that way! But it'd be better to use the command line to configure it all the same.

The were a lot of huge red flag warning signs that seemed to suggest a disk possibly going bad, but the the guy at the customers location that doubled as IT happily ignored those. I had the same problem, running Windows 10 and had been using the Buffalo NAS drive LinkDrive for years it stopped working, probably after a windows update. I could see the drive using the NAS Naigator 2 app, could ping the drive, and could access it from another machine but couldn't access it. However I should warn you that my Linux expertise isn't very extensive, so you might want to get a second opinion before doing this.
